Vero Beach, FL – December 2, 2005
–
They can’t carol, trim trees or stuff a turkey, but they can help
bring hope and support to Indian River County residents in need of
mental health care. They are 52 sea turtle sculptures unveiled Fri.,
Dec. 2 at a private preview party for more than 150 supporters of the
Mental Health Association in Indian River County.
The
event marked the first time that all 52 of the sea turtle sculptures
were gathered in one location at the same time. Organizers of the
event took the opportunity to show-off the turtle sculptures to the
businesses, individuals and artists who have been closest to the
project since it began over a year ago. The private preview, held in
the parking garage of the Park Place building at 3001 Ocean Drive, was
the prelude celebration to the community unveiling of the sea turtle
sculptures on Dec. 3 at the “Holiday Turtle Walk” held in the same
location.
Presented by John’s Island Real Estate Company, the entire community
has watched the TurtleTrax event unfold since the Mental Health
Association launched the fundraiser in the fall of 2004. During this
time businesses and individuals stepped forward to sponsor 52
fiberglass sea turtle sculptures, each six feet tall and decorated by
artists of local, regional and national acclaim.
The
TurtleTrax program combines the beauty of public art with raising
funds and awareness for the programs and services provided by the
Mental Health Association, a United Way Agency. The Mental Health
Association is Indian River County’s only nonprofit resource for
immediate access to crisis counseling and mental health solutions
regardless of ability to pay. For more information call (772)
