The signature event for the
2007 TurtleTrax, Presented by John’s Island Real Estate and
Proctor Construction, is a 10-mile walk, with a five-mile alternative,
called Turtle Trek. The event, expected to attract hundreds of individuals
in support of MHA, will be held on Saturday morning, February 24 beginning
and ending at Riverside Park
Teams have already begun preparing for the
long walk. Every Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m., walk the Barber Bridge and
every Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m., they take longer training walks.
Walkers don’t need advance reservations for the training. Just show up,
bring your walking shoes, and get a little exercise with your friends.
Anyone is welcome to join us for the training walks. But for those of you
participating in the 10 mile TurtleTrek on February 24, please register in
advance. To register in advance, please contact Katie Kowanic at the
Mental Health Association in Indian River County at 562-3794.
General: The TurtleTrek training
walks are not mandatory for participants, but we recommend that walkers
participate in some of the walks or otherwise ensure that their fitness
level will allow them to safely participate in the TurtleTrek on event
day. Consult with your physician to ensure that you can participate
safely.
When: The longer weekly training
walks will occur on Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. Arrive at Riverside Park at
8:00 a.m. and begin stretching. The group will depart promptly at 8:15
a.m. For planning purposes, assume each mile will take about 15-20
minutes.
Where: The Saturday training walks
will begin at Riverside Park. Meet at the restrooms that are to the north
and west of the Museum, close to the River.
